오스트리아 빈에서 태어난 필립 리차드슨은 5살에 처음으로 레슨을 받았다. 오스트리아 음악 콩쿨 Jugend musiziert에 입상한 경력이 있으며, 그 후 비엔나 국립 음대에서 학사학위와 석사학위(Magister artium)를 취득하였고 (Michael Krist 교수에게 사사) 또한 그와 동시에, 비엔나 국립 대학교에서 음악사 박사 과정 수료, 법대에서는 학사 학위를 취득하였다. 이후 미국 UCSB(캘리포니아 산타바바라 대학교)에서 박사 학위를 취득하였으며 (Paul Berkowitz 교수에게 사사), 이곳에서 최우수 성적으로 졸업, 오스트리아 사람으로는 최초로 피아노학 Doctor of Musical Arts를 받았다. 대학원 과정 중에 Elisso Virsaladze(로마/뮌헨)의 가르침으로 더욱 섬세하고 세련된 기교를 익힌 그는, 세계적인 피아니스트 Richard Goode(뉴욕), Murray Perahia(런던), Pascal Devoyon(파리/베를린), Andre Watts에게도 가르침을 받았다.



UCSB에서 전체 장학금과 Dean's Fellowship을 수여 받은 필립 리차드슨은 뛰어난 수상경력을 가지고 있다. 그는 Erno Daniel Memorial Award, Martin Kamen Fellowship in Piano, Dorothy Artaud Award를 비롯, 비엔나 국제 피아노 콩쿨, 로스앤젤레스 국제 리스트 콩쿨, UCSB 콘체르토 콩쿨, Performing Arts Scholarship Foundation 콩쿨, Palma d'Oro(이탈리아) 등 수많은 대회에서 대상의 영예를 안았으며 그리그 콩쿨(노르웨이)에서는 그라나도스 특별상을 수상하기도 하였다. 특히 샌프란시스코 United States Open Music 콩쿨(우승)에 앞서 열렸던 그의 2005년 뉴욕 카네기홀 데뷔 무대(국제 피아노 콩쿨)에서 그는 첫 수상의 영예를 안으며 평론가들에게 "눈부시게 아름다운 시와 열정의 혼합체"라고 찬사를 받기도 하였다. 한편, 미국의 전국 방송 프로그램인 Soundscape Series에서는 그의 일생과 경력에 대해 특색 있게 다루기도 하였다.



지난 2008년 3월 대전 목원대학교 교수로 임용된 필립 리차드슨은 현재 서울 예술의전당, 세종문화회관, 영산아트홀, 대전 문화예술의전당을 포함한 여러 곳에서 수많은 연주회를 열며 왕성한 연주활동을 보이고 있다. 또한 그는 한국 주요 방송사의 음악 프로그램(파워 클래식, 명작 스캔들, 클래식 오디세이)에 다수 출연하였으며, 삼성그룹 주최로 열린 기업 글로벌 포럼과 Future CEO 프로그램에서는 고전음악과 창의성을 주제로 특강을 가지기도 하였다.



Philipp Richardsen was born in Vienna, Austria, and received his first piano lesson at the age of five. A prizewinner at the Austrian National Music Competition, he earned his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts, completed all course requirements for a Ph.D. in music history and obtained an undergraduate certificate from Vienna University, School of Law. He received his doctorate from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he graduated summa cum laude, thus becoming the first Austrian pianist to be awarded a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance. He has received coachings from world-renowned pianists, including Richard Goode (New York), Murray Perahia (London), Pascal Devoyon (Paris/Berlin), or André Watts.



Dr. Richardsen's list of competition successes includes top prizes and awards at the Vienna International Piano Competition, the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, the UCSB Concerto Competition, the Palma d'Oro Prize (Italy), and the Granados Special Award at the Concours Grieg (Norway). His victory at the United States Open Music Competition in San Francisco was preceded by a first prize at an international piano contest in New York, which led to an acclaimed 2005 debut at Carnegie Hall, hailed by the critics as "a scintillating blend of poetry and passion." His life and career have also been featured on television, where his appearance on Soundscape Series was broadcast all across the United States.



In March 2008, Philipp Richardsen was appointed professor of piano at Mokwon University, Daejeon, Korea. Performance venues in Korea include Seoul Arts Center, Youngsan Art Hall, Daejeon Arts Center, and many others; a frequent guest on Korean television, he has appeared on major national broadcasts, such as Power Classics, Masterpiece Scandal, and Classic Odyssey. Upon invitation by the Samsung Group, he has been a guest lecturer and coach at the company's Global Forum and Future CEO programs.
