Piano 노엘 맥라비 Noel McRobbie

노엘 맥라비(Noel McRobbie)는 캐나다의 위니페그에서 태어나 5세부터 피아노를 시작하여 밴쿠버에서 수년간 싱가포르 출신의 명 피아니스트인 이컴싱(Lee Kum-Sing) 교수의 사사를 받았다. 브리티시 콜롬비아 대학(Univ. of British Columbia)을 졸업한 후 밴쿠버 음악원(Vancouver Academy of Music)에서 최고연주자과정인 Artist Diploma를 취득하였다. 미국에서는 보스톤의 뉴잉글랜드 음악원(New England Conservatory of Music)에서 잰더(Patricia Zander) 교수의 지도아래 석사학위를 받았다. 그리고 그는 미시간 대학교(University of Michigan at Ann Arbor)에서 피아노 연주와 피아노 교수법으로 박사학위를 취득하였다. 재학 기간 동안 그린(Arthur Greene) 교수로부터 피아노를 캣츠(Martin Katz) 교수로부터 반주를 사사 받았다.



Eckhardt-Grammatte 현대 피아노 음악 콩쿠르를 비롯하여, CBC 데뷔 콘서트 예술가 시리즈 대회, Grand Konzerteum 국제 콩쿠르, Seiler 국제 피아노 콩쿠르 등 수많은 콩쿠르에서 최고상을 받았다.



그는 불가리아 실내악 오케스트라, 위니페그 교향악단, 웨스트 코스트 심포니, 전주시립교향악단 등과 협연하였으며 밴쿠버 쇼팽 협회의 초청을 받아 독주회를 개최하였다. 재학 중에는 미시간 대학교 협주곡 콩쿠르에 우승하였고, 2008년 미국 덴버에서 열린 미국음악교사연합(Music Teachers National Association) 학회에서 초청받아 발표하였을 뿐만 아니라 대학 음악 협회(College Music Society)의 2009년 학회에서 발탁되어 렉쳐 연주(Lecture Recital)를 하였다. 근래에는 KBS 텔레비전의 클래식 오디세이에 출연하였고 아시아 작곡가 연맹의 한국 학회의 전체프로그램을 세종 체임버홀에서 연주하였다.



교육경력으로는 캐나다 밴쿠버의 브리티시 콜롬비아 음악원과 미국 탬파시의 남 플로리다 주립대학 피아노과에 재직하였고, 미시간 대학에서 피아노과와 피아노 교수학과의 강사를 역임하였다. 현재 동덕여자대학교 피아노과의 전임강사로 재직하고 있다.





Noel McRobbie was born in Winnipeg, Canada and began piano studies at the age of 5. Noel has studied for many years with Prof. Lee Kum-Sing at the Vancouver Academy of Music and the University of British Columbia, where he received an Artist Diploma and Bachelor of Music respectively. He graduated with a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston studying with Patricia Zander.



He has received top prizes at many competitions, including the Eckhardt-Grammatte Piano Competition for contemporary music, CBC Debut Concert Artistes Series, Grand Konzerteum International Piano Competition, and Seiler International Piano Competition.



Recent performances include Liszt’s Piano Concerto No.1 with the Bulgarian Chamber Orchestra, Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No.1 with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, a solo recital presented by the Vancouver Chopin Society, and Grieg's Piano Concerto with the Westcoast Symphony. He recently completed a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Pedagogy and Performance at the University of Michigan where he studied piano with Arthur Greene and collaborative piano with Martin Katz.



During his studies, he was selected as winner of the 2007 University of Michigan Concerto Competition, he gave a presentation at the 2008 Music Teachers National Association National Conference in Denver, and he was chosen to give a lecture-recital at the 2009 College Music Society Regional Conference. Most recently, he was featured on KBS Television's Classic Odyssey, and he performed a recital for the Asian Composers' League-Korea conference at Sejong Chamber Hall.



Noel McRobbie, who previously taught at the British Columbia Conservatory of Music, University of South Florida, and University of Michigan, is currently full-time instructor at University of South Florida, University of Michigan, is full-time instructor of piano at Dongduk Women’s University in Seoul, Korea.
