About the Publication
A fully illustrated catalogue featuring a conversation between Haegue Yang and Eungie Joo as well as contributions by artists Young Whan Bae, Gimhongsok, siren eun young jung, Beom Kim, and Chan-Kyong Park, curator Jee-Sook Beck, architect Kun Young Cho, and the legendary art collective Reality and Utterance (현실과발언/Hyun Sil Gwa Baleon) will accompany the exhibition.

Contributors to the Publication
Young Whan Bae is an artist living in Seoul. He has participated in numerous international exhibitions including “Activating Korea: Tides of Collective Action” (2007), the 51st Venice Biennale, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Gwangju Biennales, and the 2nd Busan Biennale (2002). Bae has recently produced public murals for Seoul National School for the Blind and Seoul National School for the Deaf, and executed an instantiation of his children’s library, an ongoing project, at Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art.
Jee-sook Beck is an art critic and curator based in Seoul. She is former director of the Arts Council Korea (ARKO) Art Center, former project director of the Insa Art Space of ARKO, and an editorial board member of Journal BOL, a visual culture magazine published by Insa Art Space since its inception in 2005. Beck recently co-curated “Activating Korea: Tides of Collective Action” (Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, 2007), “The Last Chapter: Trace Route: Remapping Global Cities” (2006 Gwangju Biennale) and “The Battle of Visions” (Kunsthalle Darmstadt, 2005).
Kunyoung Cho is an architect living and working in Seoul. His J&S Building was awarded the Korean Institute of Architects Award (1990), and Cho participated in the development project Bundang Houses (1993). Formerly the director of the Korean People’s Artist Federation and chair of Keein Institute of Architecture, Cho is currently the chair of Kisan Institute of Architecture.
Gimhongsok studied at Seoul National University and Düesseldorf Kunst Akademie. He has had solo exhibitions at REDCAT, Los Angeles, and Artsonje Center, Seoul. He has participated in group exhibitions such as the 50th and 51st Venice Biennales, the 10th Istanbul Biennale, “Brave New Worlds” (Walker Art Center, 2007), “The Fifth Floor” (Tate Liverpool, 2008) and “Laughing in Foreign Languages” (Hayward Gallery, 2008).
Reality and Utterance (현실과발언/Hyun Sil Gwa Baleon) was established by artists and theorists in 1979. The collecitive of artists and critics sought to play a creative role for the development of the arts in the new era. After its inaugural exhibition (Dongsanbang Gallery, 1980), Reality and Utterance organized seven group exhibitions through 1988. A colloquium commemorating the 30th anniversary of its establishment will be held in 2009 in Seoul.
siren eun young jung studied fine art at Ewha Women’s University and completed her Master’s degree in feminist art. For jung, recognizing and problematizing the role of the “invisible beings” among us, requires employing new vocabularies or counter-languages, which she explores in her work as an artist, teacher, writer, and activist. She has presented her work at New Museum, New York; and Insa Art Space, Seoul.
Beom Kim studied at Seoul National University and School of Visual Arts, New York. He has presented his work at Artsonje Museum, Gyeongju; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco; the 51st Venice Biennale; the 2nd Gwangju Biennale; and the 8th Istanbul Biennale. He was awarded the Hermes Misulssang in 2001 and 21st Sun Misulssang.
Chan-Kyong Park is an artist and art critic based in Seoul. Park is former editor of Forum a magazine and former director of Alternative Space Pool. Park has exhibited his work at “Media City Seoul: Media City 2000,” Seoul Museum of Art; and the 4th and 6th Gwangju Biennales. His recent work Sindoan was exhibited at Atelier Hermes Gallery, Seoul.
