DYSPEPTIC UNIVERSE, 2017 RE-COLLAGE

"Dyspeptic Universe is a collage of photos and pictures from various stages of my life, including snapshots from my childhood growing up in the midst of new cultural trends in Korea after the end of the Korean War in 1953. The collage features photos of me dressed-up as a cowboy, emulating fantasies about American culture generated by imported TV shows, along with images of Western women I found attractive during my teenage years. There are also photographs from an anti-American protest in which I took part, testifying to Korea’s turbulent political history. The collage figures my cultural background, the hollow truth and the perception of an “enemy”—a conflict that has remained with me to this day." Cody Choi
